Turns out "maintenance" actually means "rebuilding". Well, almost. Part way into the alignment procedure we noticed there was a lot of play in some of the bearings, which of course affects the alignment. It didn't make sense to carry on with the full alignment if we were still going to have variations afterward.
Instead of doing a half-way job, I decided to bench the old girl for awhile longer and order all new bearings, which I've just received.

Maintenance Time
Well, it's almost Christmas - the weather's not so nice, people are thinking about the holidays... must be time to do the annual maintenance on the mill!
The mill will be out of service for a short period of time while I go through it from stem to stern, looking for anything that needs replacing or adjusting. I expect this to take about 2-3 weeks, just into the new year.
Photo Album Added
I've added a photo album to the site - it's located at the bottom right of the page, below the menus.
I'm still struggling to get the previews to display correctly, but the album photos themselves are fine, so feel free to browse through our photo collection by clicking on any of the thumbnail preview images.
More FAQ updates
I've updated and added a lot of information in our FAQ section. If you're not familiar with the term FAQ, it means "Frequently Asked Questions". Don't overlook this section - it contains answers to many questions that you're probably wondering about.
What's New? Link to Us
Seems people are starting to find us on the web and many of them like the calculators we have provided.
If you are a sawyer and/or webmaster and would like to link to our calculators, please contact us.
What's New? Calculators!
Updated our online log volume and lumber calculators. Both display a little nicer now, and I added a "quantity" field to the log volume calculator so you can now get a summary output for all your logs of a given size.
Also created a new sunrise / sunset calculator. A little crude at the moment - it only shows the times for my own location. Hoping to one day get back to this and make it a little more universal.
Enjoy!
